Introduction
Adyn strives to live at the intersection of design, construction, and sustainability.

Adyn was founded by an architect and her son to build high-quality furniture rooted in timeless modern design. Each product employs simple, robust construction while using sustainable and durable materials. Adyn crafts generational-quality furniture that is architecturally designed, sustainably sourced, and durably made. All products are made in Oregon and 100% carbon neutral.

Founding Principles
Adyn was built on seven founding principles which guide how products are designed, what materials are used, and how each piece is constructed.

1 - Longevity: The Product must be designed to have a 25+ year lifespan.
Durability of construction. Durability of design. Adyn products are generational-quality pieces that are built to last – from every angle.

2 - Simplicity: The Product must be built with solid, simple, and easily understood ingredients.
Similar to a nutrition label, less is more. We don’t use low grade synthetics: no particle board, no honeycomb cardboard, and no MDF board. All products are constructed from Oregon-milled birch and high-grade steel.

3 - Durability: The Product must employ logical, robust, and over-engineered construction.
Furniture is only as strong as its weakest link. Simple, clean, and logical construction allows us to build sturdy, beautiful furniture that can be assembled in minutes.

4 - Mobility: The Product can be assembled / disassembled many times over.
We don’t take our tables apart every day and neither will you. However, our furniture is designed to be assembled / disassembled many times over, allowing it to grow and move with you – from apartment to house, house to home.

5 - Sustainability: The Company must use sustainable materials and be 100% carbon neutral.
Adyn products are 100% carbon neutral and built with sustainable materials. All of our products are made with FSC- and LEED-certified wood that is milled in Oregon. And of course, our boxes are made from recycled cardboard.

6 - Adaptability: The Product must be designed to be repurposed over time.
Furniture should not be viewed as a disposable product. At Adyn, we design products to have many lives. What is currently a dining room table may become an office desk, then a living room console.

7 - Community: The Product must be made in Oregon and support small businesses.

We see our business, in part, as an opportunity to support the incredible work of the artisanal crafters and fabricators in our Oregon community, and to embody the state’s global reputation for sustainability.

Our Story
Adyn is a family-owned business, created and run by mother-son duo Bonnie and Aaron.

Bonnie is a LEED-certified architect who has been practicing for over 35 years. In that time, her Portland-based firm has been a leading example of sustainable architectural design, making her an expert in responsible sourcing from local suppliers. Our crucial “Key to Oregon,” she balances her focus on sustainability and community with a passion for high-end design – drawing inspiration from the elegant simplicity of masterminds like Eames and Scarpa.

At a young age, Bonnie told her son Aaron to “never become an architect.” Nonetheless, his lifelong exposure to and appreciation of great design inspired a curiosity. Moving to New York, Aaron noticed that many of his friends complained of a lack of mid-tier options between the inexpensive, “single-use” furniture sold at big box stores and high-end, costly designers. Moving between apartments every one or two years, they often threw away the furniture that had already worn down.

The writing was on the wall for Bonnie and Aaron to team up and launch Adyn, which combines the high-end, timeless design of the greats with durable, modern materials: products that will adapt effortlessly to a customer as they pass through life’s many stages. Bonnie and Aaron share a passion for the details, and when they’re together, find inspiration everywhere from furniture showrooms to mid-century design books to the urban and natural landscapes they love.
Materials
Our sustainability mission sits at the heart of our business. We approach sustainability from three angles: 1) Materials, 2) Longevity, and 3) Carbon Neutrality.

Adyn sources sustainable materials whenever possible, including responsibly-harvested wood, certified laminates, and post-consumer recycled packaging.

Wood: Adyn sources its wood from an Oregon-based mill that procures raw wood from responsibly managed forests and avoids all urea-formaldehyde adhesives. All wood used in Adyn’s furniture holds the following sustainability certifications:

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC): One of the highest-threshold designations for the use of sustainably grown and harvested forests. Our Eugene, OR based wood mill has been using FSC-certified wood for over 20 years.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED): A green certification program for design and materials. All wood used in Adyn products holds a LEED-certified status for its low carbon emissions.

Laminate: All laminate used in Adyn products is produced within the United States and made with at least 23% post-consumer recycled material. Laminate is championed by designers and architects alike for its durability and longevity. Our material partner engineers its laminate to be impact, scratch, and moisture resistant, reducing the need for replacement and generating less consumer waste over time. The laminates used in Adyn’s products also hold several sustainability ratings, including GREENGUARD Gold, NSF, and SCS (Recycled Content & Indoor Advantage Gold).

Boxes: Adyn boxes are made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard that is manufactured within the United States. Our box manufacturer recycles over 68% of water used within their operation, along with 1.48 million tons of cardboard and paper, and operates with 60% cogenerated energy.

As currently designed, Adyn ships all Center Tables with foam for protection. Throughout our R&D phase, we were unable to design a box without foam that consistently shipped our products safely. We are actively testing new box designs that will allow us to remove foam from packaging and will be purchasing commensurate carbon offsets in the meantime.
Longevity
We create products that are designed to last. When starting Adyn, our first and foremost Principle was to create products with a 25+ year lifespan. There is no better way for us to reduce our carbon footprint than to create well-made furniture that reduces consumer waste. We believe a net reduction in consumption should be a paramount goal across the furniture industry, as we look towards a sustainable future.
Carbon Neutral
Like all furniture manufacturers, Adyn has a carbon footprint. We actively work to reduce our waste and emissions across sourcing, production, packaging, and distribution. As we continue these efforts, Adyn has made a long-term commitment to track and offset all emissions related to materials, production, and shipping.

Adyn currently achieves carbon neutrality by purchasing offsets for all carbon produced. This means we invest in carbon reduction or mitigation projects to offset what we create.
